A plan for the future that communities can embrace

Conservation Planning - Our Achievements

To move towards the goals set in the Regional Conservation Plan 2011-2017, the Islands Trust Fund has developed a set of measurable action items. The Islands Trust Fund will monitor its progress in completing these actions. Read more in the 2011-2017 Regional Conservation Plan Accomplishments  [PDF].

To ensure we are on the right track, in 2017, the Islands Trust Fund is developing the Regional Conservation Plan 2018-2027, a ten year plan to move us forward in the conservation of the islands. To ensure the goals of the Regional Conservation Plan remain rooted in science, we developed a Securement Strategy 2017-2027 to identify land with high biodiversity values.

Habitat Protected So Far

Federal, provincial and regional governments, the Islands Trust Fund, and our island-based land trust partners are all working to permanently protect ecosystems in the islands. As of 2017, 17.81% of the Islands Trust area was protected by public and non-profit conservation organizations. The Islands Trust Fund's protected areas account for 8.27% of the total protected land in the islands.
